A lawyer (Dean Martin) begins to win after his wife (Lana Turner) secretly becomes his bookie to save their money.

Melvin Martin and Calvin Cloy, two mountaineers, ask for the hand of Susie Sal, the prettiest gal in the mountains. Since it's proposal Sunday, Susie Sal gives the two mountain swains a task. To the first one who brings her a genuine mountain lion fur, she will give her hand in marriage.

Based on a true story, Sonny and Sal attempt a bank heist which quickly turns sour and escalates into a hostage situation and stand-off with the police. As Sonny’s motives for the robbery are slowly revealed and things become more complicated, the heist turns into a media circus.
