    CAPTION

    Hello, and welcome back.

In this video, I'm going to show
you how to prepare pH adjusters.

First one will be citric acid,

    a 50 % solution, which is
    great for lowering the pH.

    It's relatively straightforward.

    We will have water
and we have the citric acid.

    I premeasured both of them,
    so I'm making 30 grams.

I have 15 grams of citric acid
and 15 grams of water premeasured.

    You must remember, you always
add the powder into the water.

And that's what I'm doing here.

And this is a general rule
for whichever pH adjuster you make.

So once I've added the citric acid,
    I'm going to...

I've stirred it a little bit,
    but probably.

    We will need gentle heat

to speed up the process and help
    the citric acid dissolve.

You could use a water bath.

I'm using the ceramic lab heater,
so I just lowered the temperature on it.

    We really don't need
    that high heat for this.

Next up, we have water, again,
    premeasured and bicarbonate of soda.

For this, we will need heat again,
just like with the citric acid.

    I'm making again 30 grams,
    and I'm making a 10 % solution.

So that would mean 3 grams of bicarbonate
of soda to 27 grams of water.

So you see, it's not clear yet.

    With bicarbonate,
I find it takes some time in cold water

to dissolve, so the heat will
    speed up the process.

Always stir it to make sure that there are

no crystals, simply because you don't
    want to overheat your ingredient.

    It's really not necessary.

    Even this heat I chose,
it might be a bit too much,

but for the sake of this video,
    it's perfectly fine.

    In a hot water bath,
it will be much gentler anyway.

Other pH adjusters you could use,
what I'm showing here is L-Arginine.

    It's much loved by natural
    skincare formulators.

    It's totally up to you.

    In the module PDF,
    I'll give you other options.

    Now I removed my pH
    adjusters from the heat.

They are still a bit warm,

so I'm going to have to let them
cool down before I bottle them.

You see, they are completely clear.

    Everything has dissolved,
and that is exactly what we need.

    The pH adjusters are now
    ready to be bottled.

I tend to use these flip-top
cap bottles because they are easy to use.

    Don't forget to label them.

You could easily pour everything into them
and they are ready to use.
