how do you build a following if you have no followers

how do you go about growing that following

if you don't have any ideas

and how do you get past the initial fear

of getting out there of growing a community

of putting your content out there

these five specific areas we will cover shortly

as we move through this video

I wanna cover all bases

I also wanna preface this by saying

there is no magic formula to growing online

any business whether it's digital

brick and mortar it is important to understand that

if you wait for the perfect formula

you will probably never get there

if you wait until the time is right

you'll probably never get there

nobody starts off super successful

no one has hundred thousand followers

million followers overnight

I can guarantee you

anyone who has any success in any area of life

has to work hard fail

start over again continue on that cycle

if you start with these practical tips will go over

if you work your way through them

you will succeed

and you will start to see that success

little bit by little bit the trick that I found

that I believe is don't measure every small when

every small accomplishment

appreciate them yes

but don't base your whole strategy on them

instead set a time in the distant future

maybe in one year or in six months

to go back and benchmark

and track everything as a whole

in a much bigger picture

versus every single minute of every single day

looking at things waiting for things to grow

if you do that you probably quit

you'll probably quit sooner than later

and it will probably drive you crazy

let's start with how do you know what to share

with your online audience

how do you know what to put out there

this is something that can be very simple

start with what you already know

what are you good at what do you enjoy doing

don't worry so much about the audience as much at first

worry more about what are you going to talk about

how can you do that for an extended period of time

and carry on a natural

simple conversation the reason you wanna do this is

you will be able to carry on that natural

type of conversation easily

you could do this on topics you already know

you don't need to act like you know something

when you may or may not know that

you don't need to force something

when you may or may not know that

I've made these mistakes many times over the years

so think about something you already know

something you already do and enjoy

now identify that right now

you can start by telling me about it

you can literally pause the video right now if you like

and start telling me about your passion

look into the mirror start talking about your passion

what do you like about it

what makes it fun what makes it interesting to you

this is the key

when it comes to creating content for any audience

and anything that you do in life

the same thing applies to your content material

you can go against the grain

if you are creating on something

you know very little about

but I don't recommend you do that

I don't recommend you waste your time doing that

you have to look at it like this

when it comes to building a brand

especially a digital brand

where there's no brick and mortar store

where you're not out there every day in public

doing hand to hand transactions

you want to take any knowledge you have

anything you know specifically

and plan to create content around it for

I would personally say three to five years

now it doesn't mean

you have to create hundreds of pieces of content

every week and go crazy

but you wanna put out a good video

you wanna put out a good article

you wanna put out a good blog post

I have other videos on this

on the channel that that you can watch

for reference on how to put out content

but look at it in terms of what can I talk about

for years naturally

where it won't be a chore every single day

every single time I'm coming on to create a video

if you want to talk about something that you're

not super well versed in

you don't even have maybe an amateur level at it

but it's something that you really wanna do

I'm not telling you not to do that

of course do that what I would recommend is

give yourself 90 days of research

at least might seem like you're wasting time

you wanna get started you wanna get videos out there

but the videos just won't be good

the videos won't resonate

the videos

probably won't reach who you want them to reach

if you're not being authentic

if you're not being genuine

if you're forcing things too much

maybe you're scripting things

something wrong with scripting from time to time

using bullet points very important

I use bullet points and everything I'm going through

right in front of me here

but it's more about that natural conversation

so I would take that 90 days

I would get out there and start watching videos

start reading articles learn before you begin

you could do this for free

you can learn almost all beginner things for free

many novice things as well

even some more advanced things

if you have the time

and you're willing to get out there

look for it

but those 90 days will give you nine months of growth

on the back end

truly if not more

so

you're not wasting any time by learning that new skill

if you're talking about something

you're already well versed and very knowledgeable in

then you don't need to worry about that 90 days

now you do not need to be an expert

to talk about a subject

but you want to have a generalized knowledge that

I believe needs to be slightly above

what the normal person will already know

why is that if it's not obvious already

why would somebody watch your content

why would somebody watch your videos

what pain point are you filling

for that intended audience

that intended person that they don't already know

so why would someone click on a video

why would someone read an article that you've written

if it's something that almost everybody knows

now most things

depending on how specialized the knowledge is

and what you're doing

you can find areas that maybe 80% of people know

but 20% don't and you can really niche down your market

and I have other videos on this as well

that you can look out on the channel about niches

and how to really find them

but focus on what you know

it makes it that much easier to create the content

now No. 2 how do you identify your target audience

for your digital brand

identifying this target audience for your brand

it should include two main considerations on your end

first what do you want to talk about

when you narrow down that subject matter

you can easily narrow down your target audience

what do I know what can I talk about

what can I talk about

for years while I build this brand

and the next thing you wanna do is

simply take that subject matter

your current skills you already know

and look for the pain points in the market

market your skills around those pain points

this is often done in reverse

I used to do this in reverse

and that does not fall into the area of effective

content strategy

don't fall into that trap

so here's an example for reference

that say you're passionate about fitness

how to live a healthy lifestyle

now write down what you know about fitness

write down what you know about diet

what you know about working out

stress levels motivation

now from that list of topics that you already know

you can begin to identify your audience

while figuring out those pain points

you're speaking to

anyone who is looking to clean up their diet

look speaking to anyone's looking to get in shape

maybe live a healthy lifestyle

maybe practicing religion

reading the Bible hey

whatever it may be now

you can dive deeper into each of these

foundational areas

create sub topics for your target audience

to achieve those best results

No.3 why you should always create high quality content

hey this is super important

there was a time when I was working on different brands

working on different things

working with different companies

and I was putting out a lot of content

ton of content in the mindset of quantity over quality

with still some quality in there

but not enough quality not enough targeting

not enough time put into that

and it resonated in the results

so in best time in creating content

you want it to be informative

you want it to be entertaining

you want it to be inspiring

it does not need to be spectacular

amazing super high quality productions

edits going all over the screen every 5 seconds

so anything along those lines yes

if that's how you create that's okay too

but it does not need to be that intense

I think and from experience

and from running many campaigns over years of time

that simplicity is often the best way to go

make things simple make things easy to understand

and it doesn't need to be very flashy

so you don't need to get super stressed out

about creating

very intense videos to take a ton of time to edit

high quality does not mean high editing

does not mean mass editing

does not mean spending a week

to write one blog article

that is also not effective

you have to balance out

great quality with enough quantity

to continue to build now when I was starting out

I was very product based focused creating on books

creating courses

which is still something that I'm passionate about

and I create but that was all I was focusing on

focusing on the platform and

and and how the videos were delivered

I was not putting enough time

into good quality content

to good quality content creation

so the term high quality should not be taken lightly

this does not have to be scholar level articles

it should give value

should give value to the person spending the time

reading it think of it

in terms of everything you are putting out there

ask yourself one question

will this benefit someone reading this watching this

will this benefit their 10 minutes of time

they are investing in it to read it

will they leave learning something

knowing something they did not know before

whether this is blog post

its videos or podcast or social media post

you wanna

ensure that your content is visually appealing

and it adds value to your audience's lives

very important part consistency here is key

aim to maintain regular posting

regular schedule to keep your audience engaged

this schedule does not need to be 10 times a day

in fact it shouldn't be 10 times a day

set a schedule that works for you works for your life

whether that's once a week twice a week

three times a week

maybe a little bit more on on Twitter

if you're putting out tweets on X whatever that may be

form a schedule that works for you

now No. 4

is the importance of engaging regularly

with your audience

at one point in my content creation and in my journey

as I was building early on again

I had the mindset of thinking that

good copy content would carry itself

so

I did not think I needed to invest much time engaging

and I would let the platforms do that for me

that's what they're there for

put out great content

and the rest will take care of itself

I was wrong about this obviously

and I Learned that the hard way after deleting

a couple online brands after deleting social profiles

after having failure after failure

going through what I was going through

many unsuccessful pages

had to learn it the hard way

like a lot of us have to learn things at times

so engagement is equally

if not more important than great content

now again if you put out not great content

and you're just commenting on everything and engaging

it won't really matter because most people

probably won't be initiating engagement

on what you're putting out there

because it's not great so you see how the cycle works

if your content is not the best content

but it's okay you can still salvage it

by engaging with your audience online

on some level

you want to initiate conversations with your audience

how do you do that you just respond to comments

send messages at mentions

a lot of small things you can do

those small things are important

remember their social networks

you're trying to build an audience for your content

for your brand through social networks

the the other end of that is

people that are looking for engagement

looking for connection looking for the social side

so when you send a comment

think about when you get a comment in your inbox hey

I really like that article or

or great video great picture

even if it's from your friends

which it probably is most of the time

how does that make you feel

makes you feel good

you remember that person and you probably reciprocate

so the same principle applies here

showing genuine interest in opinions

and generating that feedback

can help you foster that community

ultimately grow that audience bigger

engaging with your audience

it does not only strengthen a relationship

but it invites other people to also

join in on the conversation

now No. 5 offer value solve problems

I would say that providing value

probably the single most important piece

to building a following

building a following of any kind

whether it's short term whether it's long term

it's easy to put out a video

it's easy to write a blog post

let's be honest anyone with a phone

anyone with a laptop can write something

can post something on Instagram

or post something on Twitter

put out a video

just record with your phone and a lot of people do

I'm not coming down on any

on any quality of content

or I'm not coming down on anything

anyone's putting out there

because it's a learning and growth process

but you can tell

the ones that are learning and growing through it

and you could tell

the ones that are just kind of doing it to get it done

putting things out to get it done

anyone can press record

and put those things out into the market

but of those that say hundred thousand people

how many of them actually provide value

what percentage is around in a year

what percentage is around in a month

or three months or six months

and why are they not around

because no one's following

cause that audience is not building

which circles back to value

it circles back to engagement

and circles back to the consistency of everything

it's easy to see who is putting that value out

not so much in the number of followers even they have

but the quality they have

some creators

was significantly less followers than others

but the content they put out is 10 times more valuable

this is something that's very important to me

that I talk about over and over again

don't focus on follower numbers specifically

it doesn't matter as much as you might think yes

someone scrolling that looks at your profile and says

hey they have 1 million followers

they must be onto something

if you really delve into the content a lot of the time

a lot of those followers are not super engaged

so I would rather

personally have 100,000 super engaged followers

across all social media networks combined

then 1 million that are only 10% or 20% engaged

cause the numbers will come out to the same

especially when you're looking to scale a business

or you're looking to grow online

sell a product sell a course

whatever that may be

think about that in terms of not quantity but quality

so we're sort of reversing it from the beginning

now don't overthink it here

it doesn't need to be any more complicated than it is

than this valuable content

anything that solves a problem for the person

it was intended for when it was created

focus on providing value value driven content

that addresses the needs and challenges

of your specific audience

share this knowledge share your expertise and insights

to offer solutions to the problems

with skills and with knowledge you already have

preferably if you're able to do that

if it matches up when you consistently deliver value

you will bring trust you will bring credibility

which are essential for growing

and building a loyal following

in the short term and more importantly

in the long term so when you follow these steps

when you stay focused on the goals we've outlined

you can grow a really a thriving online following

you can do this from scratch

which everybody has to do

even with zero initial followers

which it's okay to be there

we all are there at certain points

and that is the journey when you're getting started

so set your milestones

go back through the five key points

and just be consistent

be consistent with things you're putting out

your audience will start to grow
