How are you doing folks My name is Avery I'm a photographer and videographer I'm herewith Lance who is a studio director and also he specializes in live streaming and podcasting and welcome tothe very first episode of Isl Insiders We're filming this out of our studio here in Hartsdale Westchester And whatwe do here is just talk about different type of technology that we're interested in such as anything todo with cameras audio streaming devices podcast equipment and even drones because I used to invest with dronesback in the day So I hope you like the content We're always here about addingvalue to you guys lives talking about experiences with these products or even if we don't have them instudio Oops I just hit that even if we don't have them in the I'm sorry it's expensiveWe break the mic and I gotta bring it then we gotta bring another one that we can review Rightexactly One of the more expensive ones that you like There is a more expensive one tothis to these mics Well let's get sponsored first before we start over here bringing inthe new mics So um yeah today what are we talking about Oh we're talking about the what'sit the the video switcher So full disclosure we don't have one of these ro just announced a couple ofdays ago It's definitely something that can really help us on gigs and I knowLance is excited about this because this fits in well with his expertise So LanceI'm going to let you take it away with this What is this product So uhroad is spelled Rorde Sorry Rode Then they got like an o with like a there's probably like a technicalname for that letter Yeah I forgot what it is It's not a um lot that's butit's an Australian company Um They've been pioneering podcasting for a while now So even what we'rerecording on we're not even using a broadcaster broadcaster pro is what kind of like everybody named Mama bought oneof those things It was like 600 bucks at the time and it's really has really good ampsand just a really good piece of tech as it is Maybe we'll upgrade to thatone I don't know it's a really good stuff but so they came out this is something I sawlike a month ago like someone kind of leaked it and then boom there waslike B and H was like hey we're going to have this big event Dada da I was like it's it's going to be video I remember when you hitme up when you saw that he was like oh this is going to beexciting It's going to be video I was like and then boom they were like it's broadcastervideo That's that's their new thing So pretty much what they did They took the broadcaster pro and thenthey took a video switcher and then they just throw it into one thing UmAnd what it is if you're not familiar with what a video switcher is it's like a glorifiedcapture card but with multiple inputs So this one can do I think up toover HDM I you can just plug it in So if you want to put like an xbox or aplaystation it'll a switch whatever has an HDM I on it you can put it in there Itwill show up Do you think an Oculus Quest three or Quest two S would work onthere too What the view was the interestingly enough it does have two USB Cconnectors on there I don't know what the speed of those ports are but you can then plugin USB C or something that's over I think it's called UVC Don't quote meon the technicals of that but it's um it allows you to uh you know it'sallows you to plug in two USB C connected cameras like USB C Uh Hell it could probably evenbe your tablet or your phone or even your your webcam like your really fancy webcam What if Iwanted to use a handheld gaming device Like for instance I have the Logitech GCloud with the update it outputs the video through CS BC But then you alsohave devices like possibly the Steam Deck OLED or the Legion go or the M si claw I thinkall of these devices are capable of putting out video Can somebody technically take that same sourceand plug it into the broadcaster video and stream it from your hands while they have a camera Imean I don't see why not because it's supposed to be able to receive that signal overUSB C Um I wish we had one so we could test that theory But even with the more moderncameras out there that can now you can use as a webcam that's pretty much whatit's doing So it's just taking that signal off of that and then turn it intovideo and stuff like that So technically this thing can do up to six video inputs um with thetwo extra USB C and stuff like that And I think it has two other USBCS that allows you to hook up their other newer broadcasters so you can getlike really great audio into it Um So you don't have to you know figure out how you'regoing to get audio into your video and stuff like that right Um But thedevice itself is mainly meant to for you to have this kind of production It's like a small studio productionone man band sort of thing Um allows you to switch different angles switch to different scenesUm Like how you would do an O BS O BS you have to go in and create allthis stuff in software create your different scenes yada yada But with this thing it'sall in hardware So it takes off a shit ton of resources off of your computer Andnot only that it can encode and Transco that means it can stream and recordat the same time and transco your stuff out to folks What kind of quality are we talking aboutStreaming wise Can you get out of this thing 1080 P 60 at the moment No four K no fourK Funny enough So they have another product called the Streamer X which does four K 60 rightI never I've never heard of this one The streamer X oh Man Let me share it real quick onthe screen right here is the price going to make my head hurt It would have but theyjust cut it in half Um Let's see here The stream of the where is it Oh I ohIt's not it's not on their website anymore That's kind of weird Uh Oh let's oh there it is TheStreamer series So yeah the Streamer Series This um the road at the Streamer X Itwent back up in price Damn It it was half price actually last week So yeah theythey had it they had it slashed half price last week Um So what this does is fourK 60 It's one type of um I think it's only 11 input and one and then a passthrough So you can hook up something like a PS five Xbox whatever or even a camera And then youdo a pass through four K 60 then because the pass through is for youso you can see your game and play and everything like that And then this is um then youhook this up to your computer via USB C and then you put that into somethinglike um wire casts or O BS or whatever whatever you use to stream out so that thisdoesn't really remove a way to take resources off your computer It just adds moreif anything But if it's just you and plus as you can see it has a full XL RC XLR connector in the back of it So that means you can put a plug in microphones like these directinto it without a cloud lifter and stuff like that So can you connect the streamer X to the videocaster That's a good question I don't know because they haven't they didn't talk aboutthat Um but I know you can connect um other things like uh you can you can connect things likeum whatchamacallit their their new broadcaster um audio interfaces You can connect those through USB C but I don't seeagain I don't see why not This would work Although I don't think you can Hm So evenif you were to do the whole pass through thing it's not like it's going to senda four K signal because it's just it's going to downgrade it to 1080 p 60 So youcan't really trick it into saying oh I'm streaming out in four K now and I think that's a lotof people was asking that question can it do that And it's like no itcannot So knowing the quality that we can output yeah who would be the best people that this particulardevice is made for Like what situations what kind of gigs are they running That this device wouldbe best for them So pretty much this can be used for broadcasters So if you have like a smallstudio set up like we do and stuff like that um So broadcasters can range from you're doingsomething in your studio or something in a conference or whatever the case may be Um or forpeople who live stream all the time and they have all these extra gear and stufflike that Um Video podcasts is a big thing That's one of the biggest this is the reason why we'redoing this in the video So um and then or solo creator like somebody who's just by themselvesand stuff like that because um or even like a solo um studio head like if you just likeyou have your small studio and you have like small clients like um not to say small meaning theydon't pay you well But meaning like if you are managing a bunch of like smaller podcasts where it isOh I want video Cool You can chuck this in your bag with your camera set upset everything up your lights whatever boom record and everything like that And then you don't haveto worry about catching um a bunch of angles and then going and resin and everything rightOK Cool Which is a really cool feature with this thing out the box It doesIso recording right So which kind of talks with Iso Insiders right It's like umso Iso meaning it's isolated file So pretty much you're gonna whatever you plug in each one of those inputswill be recorded as a separate file so you can edit it after the factThat's pretty good Yeah so you can cover up a shot If you made amistake you have a wide shot or a safety shot or whatever you can just go in and just kindof or cover it up with like a slide like a uh like somebody who'sdoing like a conference and they have the slide and then you know there wassome somebody cut too soon on one end It's like OK let's just use that because everything will bein sync So you don't have to worry about like oh it it would be out of syncwhen you're switching these type of things So you know you don't have to really worry about it Andthat's like one of the features that it comes out of the box with which isquite amazing for you know I'm not going to get into the price of this yet but that's butI would say like um for me let me go over my top three favorite features from it rightThe first one audio right The crazy part about it is on the back of this thing It hastwo full size combo XL R inputs So we could put two of these RightExactly or a guitar or instrument Oh combo jack OK So you can like you knowlike you want to be on your little ukulele or whatever to play with a guitar or likethat Exactly Exactly So it like when it comes to like the audio portion it has it hasa headphone jack like not the 3.5 but a quarter inch So you can fully plug in andit has audio out meaning you can hook up two like studio monitors and stuff like that So whateveris coming through that we can just go out into bigger spaces and stuff like that So that'spretty damn cool Ok Wait wait wait wait how much is how much is the device Becausethat sounds pretty amazing Right I get to my other two favorite Wait wait wait that was onlyone feature I thought those were three features in one So this is all audioSo the audio part here's this is the second part to the first feature which is theycan receive up to two Bluetooth connected wireless devices meaning audio So the road wireless goes andstuff like that So even though you can connect to two then you can connect more and more people Welltwo more two more so wireless So their wireless interview mic or their wireless micsand stuff like that and that kind of comes in over Bluetooth directly into thesystem Do you think that's only road or can the DJ imx work as well UhI you know I think it's knowing them it's probably just road but it'd be cool ifit was just any sort of Bluetooth sort of thing But I think right nowit's just road they might update it in the future Who knows But you know um the nextthing that comes out of it which is you can build your super source scenesright Meaning so I'm talking about super source you know when you're watching the news you see those like yousee the talking heads and in boxes and stuff like that This is built into that So youcan just connect to your computer build out your scene And the really cool part is instead of being lockedinto uh where a person is in your scene you can actually move it around independentlyof where your boxes are and stuff like that So you can center people without telling them hey moveyour camera this way move your camera that way sort of thing So that really workswell if you have like a remote client too as well Exactly So this device saves youa lot of time A shit ton of time especially with something like that Youknow it doesn't mean that your stuff is going to look great because you're remote but it is what itis Um And you know I think my third favorite feature from it is um I mentioned it earlierIt comes out with Iso record like it's just just ready to go boom you're good to go youknow besides the streaming part and everything like that But it's like having all that right there atyour fingerprint that that's at your fingertips Sorry AB is a game changer for a lot ofpeople you know so it's like it can just help you know you can plug ina USB C hard drive into it and oh you know what I lied about Mythird favorite thing I just remembered My third favorite thing is um video playback built inThat means you can load up a bunch of files that you want to play put it on alittle they have a Macro SD card pop it in there boom you get video play back right away thatyou can mix right into your scene So full motion video whatever you want a commercialuh animated scene whatever all that stuff works And so you could literally be streaming and then youwant to put a commercial break you just bring it up and play it Exactly And that's built intothe system You don't need a separate piece of device to do that So thator a piece of software or something like that So you don't have to sacrifice one of your inputs andstuff like that So those are my three favorite but now the price $1200 OK Butto be fair the amount of features that are built into this thing like Ifeel like if you try to do this separately with a bunch of different devices because let me askyou this if you want to do this right now right Alternatively what this little device can do what kindof devices would we need right now to do what that one device can do Um So thereare a few companies out there like new tech on Black magic that create video switchersThere's I think there's a few other companies like Yellow Box Uh There's another one I think we havea yow Box we have a Yellow Box Pro and we have a T the ATM Iso Sdix Extreme thebig one the big one on the desk So they cost around the same price forpretty much not with everything right So if you want iso recording you do have to pay a little bitextra for that But if you want also video playback with the A T you have to get yourself ahyper deck which costs an extra anywhere from $300 up to $2000 So we're already we're alreadylooking at some of like $3000 Exactly You're blowing stuff out of the park alreadyBut if you have a yellow box yellow box does have that stuff built in and stuff likethat But if you want the one that can do iso recordings and stuff likethat you would have to spend I think around uh 1500 or more And that's the YOLO Box ultraSo right now this is still looking like the better deal in terms of all the capabilitiesbuilt into the device especially for one man bands Exactly Because if you want four K you know becausea lot of people asking about that but what people don't quite realize about four K that the amountof computation that takes is kind of insane And on top of that the filesizes are atrocious So you know we don't it's a trade off It's always a tradeoff It's a trade off and let's face it Most people do not even like big broadcast broadcasters Theydon't stream out and they don't I'm broadcasting four K It's 1080 It's not even 30 noteven 60 it's 30 or 24 you know So it's like and it's like the four K that's likemore specially I thought um soap operas were broadcast in 60 frames per second Ithink it is Yeah the video kind of look I have young arrest this thing in the back ofmy head So it's like it just really depends on your content and stuff likethat But if you are the person that's doing this sort of thing you're shooting apodcast you're making content you're just going live and stuff like that 1086 is good enough And then on topof that too let's face it A lot of these When you're streaming to stuffthis is a little bit more technical where it's like the servers that these companieshave can't really handle these things well because you would have to pay way more money because of the compressionsoftware yada yada that sort of thing But yeah to even have playback you need to spend way more moneyto get four K is way more money than $1200 But out the box beingable to hook up up to you know uh four mics two wireless two regularand even Daisy chain to Broadcaster Pro which allows you another four mics and then theyalso have wireless connections as well You could have eight people going at once Like this sounds like aconference set up Exactly So you can but it would be it would sound good like a panellike when you have those panel and all the judges or people or the guest speakers speaking likewhat we've done in the past before So this could actually cut a lot of stuffthat we have to set up Oh yeah And it was it was sound good andthen it would be another it's just another uh Daisy chain in the whole thing where it costsless Um no it doesn't really technically cost less You do you still will start rackingup a lot of money So I would say if you were to say put everything togetheryou still need to buy those cameras So even if you spend $1200 on that thing you still needto spend another $600 on the broadcaster and then you need to buy those microphones which costanother couple of 100 bucks and then the cameras are a couple of $1000 It is just starting to addup It just starting Yeah So that's if you're going into things like if you're tryingto do a video they even have like uh uh you know uh oh yeah the handsfree a auto switching which is AAA pretty much means um video follows audio So as someone speaks itthen switches to that person Um I wasn't it Yeah which is but I've heard reportsthat it's been a bit wonky but yeah that's probably going to improve as timegoes on with firmware update I'm not worried about that And that's like a big thing with Road It's likethey release really big firmware updates and then it just magically works and everything like thatSo I think that Road is probably going to revolutionize this sort of thing Um Which isI think it's a good buy for if like if you really have that extra money burninga hole in your pocket and you you have that inability to kind of like yeah Ican do this now and stuff like that but I don't really see the average podcaster buying this thing forthem No this is more for people with small studios small I would say different for small medium oreven large studios or they want even law shooters They're like oh we want todo a podcast Ok cool We'll spend 1200 bucks you know that's nothing to them And it's like youknow so it's like it's a cheaper alternative and stuff like that But like out the box with greataudio Um And then again I said it's more about your uh your camera set up Yeahso yeah I mean but like I said it does add up over time regardless of everything like that justcoming out of the box you still need a bunch of other equipment as well Well thank you sirfor that amazing breakdown And I see that will be something that we're going tobe adding to our Christmas list aren't we for the studio Um I mean we wepretty much have everything that one has but I like the smaller footprint Yeah Yeah I wouldsay for if we're doing stuff in the field conferences and stuff like that I think all road setup with me I'm a GG I man I'm trying to convert me I meanwho knows Maybe they'll maybe they'll like throw in like the new firmware Oh youcan connect different uh Bluetooth uh stuff and see what happens DJ I just got intofreaking electrical e bikes modification and stuff like that So who knows They might just throw younever know where they're just going to come out of left field I think there's a rumor oftalking about they're going to come out with a mirrorless camera soon because that's hassle So yeahthat's probably going to revolutionize the industry Ok That that sounds like a next topic whenit comes out Maybe we can get our hands on it then Take it backI'm kidding But who knows how much it costs Uh all right Well that bringsus to the end of this episode These are not going to be very longfolks unless we have a guest If we have a guest you know we just let them sit next tous and they can chime in and you know teach us something or we can eventalk about Well we can get a remote guest I have an idea for a remote guest thatwe can show that we can show really well with our setup Here we go The only thingthat their road cast video doesn't have streaming bridge capability We'll get we'll get into that anothertime But anyway um thank you for watching this episode Hope you enjoy it You can find theaudio version of this wherever you
