begin a new teaching in our sound Doctrine series the truth about the Holy Spirit

listen and be blessed open your Bibles to Titus Chapter 2 Verse 1 but as for you Titus speak teach

the things that are consistent with sound Doctrine this year that's what we've been talking about

sound Doctrine and we've been talking about the importance of sound factoring and how it's needed in the

body of Christ today and then we started talking about sound Doctrine as it pertains to certainty documents that we

need to know and understand and today we're going to continue talking about sound Doctrine we're

going to talk about one of the most misunderstood doctrines in the Bible and that is the doctrine of

the Holy Spirit some people I just dismiss the Holy Spirit and his work entirely

others twist and distort the work of the Holy Spirit turning him into an emotional

experience on a Sunday morning other people say that the holy spirit is a Mystical Force or a

source of confusion but the Bible clearly reveals who the holy spirit is and what he does so that's

first place we're going to go to this morning we're going to answer the question

who is the Holy Spirit we need to know who the Holy Spirit it is from a Biblical perspective

Jesus talked about the importance of the Holy Spirit and that he would come after he ascended to heaven

to continue the ministry that he began so we need to know who the holy spirit is and

what the Holy Spirit does the holy spirit is a Divine person who's actively involved in creation the

life of Jesus the early church and the ongoing life of the believer the holy

spirit is something that we cannot ignore or dismiss because he's active he's alive and

he's working in the world today through the Holy Spirit God empowers he guides he sanctifies his people

he equips us for service and shoes our growth in faith and Holiness Jesus said this in

John 14:26 he says but the advocate the helper the paraclete the Holy Spirit whom the

father will send in my name will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have

told you the Holy Spirit whom the father will send has a specific assignment he as a specific

Mission and that is to teach you all things and remind you of everything that Jesus the

word below Goss has told you in this teaching just like the truth about the Bible just

like the truth about God I'm going to expose the many lies being told about the Holy

Spirit and we're going to contrast those lies with the truth that found in the

scripture the truth that is found in the word you always have to go back to

the word so let's get into some of these lies about the Holy Spirit number one

the holy spirit is just an energy or a force now some teach that the holy spirit

is just a power or influence or impersonal Force but the truth is the holy

it is a Divine person the Holy Spirit has a personality the holy spirit is intelligent the Holy

Spirit has emotions and the Holy Spirit has a wheel the holy spirit is fully

God Acts chapter 8 verse 29 we see the spirit said to Philip go over to

that Chariot and stay by it in Acts chapter 13 verse 2 we see the Holy Spirit saying set

apart for me Barnabas and Saul in these two verses we see the Holy Spirit active speaking

at Key moments which highlights his active role in guiding the early church serving as

a counselor and guide one of the things we need to know from the start

about the Holy Spirit he stays in his role his role is very specific and

one of the roles we see here is he's actively involved in guiding the church

but he serves as a counselor and a guide the Holy Spirit like God is respecter of your will

he's not going to force or impose himself on you but he's going to lead he's going

to guide he's going to counsel you into all truth John 16:13 Jesus said when he the spirit of truth

comes he will guide you into all truth he will guide you to the full and

the complete truth that's found in the word oftentimes we're on this path of life with no Focus

no Direction the Holy Spirit comes to give us Focus to give us Direction he comes to guide us

into into all truth he comes to guide us in the full and complete truth does found in

the scripture the question is will we follow where he leads us because you and I we have freedom

of Will and we have the choice to either follow him or go down our own path but like we've

discovered in the word there's a path that seems right to a man but the end is destruction and death

so the Holy Spirit comes to God and to lead us into all truth John 14:26 Jesus talking

about the holy spirit says he will teach you all things the holy spirit is

our ultimate teacher yes God has given us human teachers in the body of Christ he

gave some pastors he gave some teachers for the equipping of the Saints for the work

of ministry but the holy spirit is our ultimate teacher because each one of those leadership

positions have to seek the leading in the guidance of the Holy Spirit in order to impart things to the

Saints to the people the holy spirit's job he's going to teach you all things he's the Illuminator

of the scripture often times people try to read the scripture study the scripture in their

own power in their own intellect and they end up confused because they did not allow the Holy Spirit

to come in and be their ultimate teacher he is the Illuminator of the scripture that word illuminate means

to bring light to the scripture he's the one that's going to bring the understanding in

the clarity of the scripture but you have to invite him in he's the one that's

going to keep you on track so when these false teachers come and they try to deceive you with the

line why kill that you know and bring you back to the truth of the word because that's

his job he will guide you into all truth he's not going to make you believe the truth but he's

going to keep guiding you into the truth the full and complete truth again the question is are we going

to follow him where he's leading us are we going to allow him to illuminate the scriptures there bring

forth wisdom knowledge and understanding so that we can now walk in the truth both of

the word he's our intercessor Romans chapter 8 verse 26 and 27 says that the

spirit intercedes for God's people to the father even when we don't know what the prey or what the say

the Holy Spirit now will intercede for us to the father so that he can hear our prayer and

understand our need the holy spirit is not just an energy e or false he's

a teacher he's an intercessor and when we deny his presence in our life the holy spirit is

grieved please and 4:30 says do not grieve the holy spirit of God this verse emphasizes the personal nature

of the Holy Spirit the holy spirit is relational he wants to have a relationship with us and when

we deny him when we reject him the holy spirit is grieved meaning he can experience and express

grief the holy spirit is grieved by the actions and behaviors and attitudes of Believers and I know he's

crying today over the spiritual decline of the church he's grieved the holy spirit is not

an impersonal Force he is the living active spirit of God at work in the lives of Believers today

number two the second life the holy spirit is not God many deny the Divinity the

divine nature of the holy spirit because the truth is the holy spirit is fully God oftentimes

other religions and people outside of the body of Christ and the truth of God's word think

that we worship three Gods there's one God and the Holy Spirit is the god the

Holy Spirit possesses the same attributes and the authority of God when you studied the

Holy Spirit you'll find out that the Holy Spirit was in the beginning Genesis 1:2 now the Earth

was formless and empty Darkness was over the surface of the deep and the spirit of God was hovering

over the waters supervising the creation of the world so we see the spirit of God in

the beginning and he is eternal Hebrews 9:14 says how much more than will the blood of Christ

who through the eternal spirit offered himself unblemished to God cleanse our Consciousness from acts that lead to death

so that we may serve the Living God so we see the Holy Spirit in the beginning we

see the Holy Spirit active in the present and he's active eternally because he's the eternal spirit of God

John 4:24 says God is Spirit he's the source of all life you're invisible to his creation

God is Spirit the holy spirit is God just verse emphasizes the non-material oil or the non-human nature

of the spirit of God you can't see Spirit you can't feel Spirits the holy spirit is nature is Spirit

God is spirit and because he Spirit he is omnipresent meaning he's everywhere at the same time

and he is transcendent meaning he is beyond our limits he surpasses and exceeds human wisdom knowledge experience and understanding

the Holy Spirit and God are one Psalm 139 7 the psalmist asked his question where can

I go from your spirit we know the answer is no we're why because he's omnipresent he's everywhere present that's

the same attribute as God because the holy spirit is God first Corinthians 2:10 says says the spirit searches all

things even the Deep things of God he can do that because he's omniscient meaning he's all knowing

Joe 30 34 says by the spirit of God the heavens were made meaning he's omnipotent

he's all-powerful we see the Holy Spirit In God their one we don't serve three

Gods there is one God Matthew 3:16 and 17 the baptism of Jesus immediately following his baptism the Holy

Spirit descended Upon Jesus like a dove while God the Father audibly Proclaim Jesus as his son in

whom he is well pleased in this verse we see all three persons of the

Trinity God the Father God the son God the Holy Spirit it all three persons of the Trinity

and these three are one the holy spirit is eternal the holy spirit is omniscient the holy spirit is

under present the holy spirit is omnipotent he is divine and he has the same attributes as God

the holy spirit is the active presence of God in the world guiding in an empowering Believers the holy spirit

is God the one the third line that we're going to discuss this morning is

the holy spirit work ended with the early church some believe the Holy Spirit no longer exists some believe that

dr. it no longer moves and powers and convicts all give spiritual gifts to the

body of Christ today this is another religious line that's being taught in some seminaries and this is

what they say the miraculous gifts such as speaking in tongues and prophecy and healing ceased the

ended when all the Apostle died and with the completion of the New Testament Canon

that's what faith saying but what does the Bible say we have to always go back to the

word of God the truth is the holy spirit is alive and still at work

in the body of Christ according to the will of God one of the things we

going to understand about the Holy Spirit is that the Holy Spirit does not act independent he

only does what he hears the father say the holy spirit is alive and he's active in the world today

working in and through the body of Christ according to the will of God these sensationalist who claim

that the miraculous gifts are gone they come to this conclusion by by taking out of context

certain scriptures in the Bible to support their view but the Holy Spirit hasn't ceased because God hasn't ceased because

the Holy Spirit and God are one to say that the gifts have ceased the Holy

Spirit and God has ceased they don't understand what they don't support is the miraculous work of God all

throughout the Bible God has shown himself strong and he's giving gifts throughout the Bible now

this is where I do agree with the sensationalist that the gifts are being abused today the Holy Spirit making

you dance run jump shout fake healings Benny Hinn's I agree with him on that the fake gifts listen Satan

is a counterfeiter he specialized in taking something that's true and making it false so a lot of

these things that we see in churches and on TV she they're fake manifestations of the Holy Spirit and

has been proven so they've done documentaries on it but see the genuine gifts of God have not ceased

and so that's why you and I as Believers we have to know the genuine from the counterfeit so I

can understand the position on that point but to say that the Holy Spirit no

longer exists that the Holy Spirit no longer empowers that the Holy Spirit no longer convicts or gives

to give the day it's not true the truth is the holy spirit is alive

and still at work in the body of Christ today according to the will of God does

look some scriptures this morning Joel 2:28 I will pour out my spirit on all people that's

future tense this prophecy was for something that was going to occur almost eight hundred sixty years

in the future I will pour out my spirit on all people people Jesus said in John 14 17 the

spirit of Truth the world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him but

you know him for he lives with you and will be in you both Joel 2:28 and

John 14:17 was future prophecy that was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost where the prophecy of Joel

came to pass it was old since the day of Pentecost every believer that has been born again received

the Holy Spirit you receive the Holy Spirit when you confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart

that God raised him from the dead you'll save the holy spirit is in you now he's

taking up permanent residence in your life now what you allow the Holy Spirit to do any through you is

according to your will but to say that the holy spirit is inactive is not operable

is ceased first the Bible don't support that position 1st Corinthians 12:7 says to each one the manifestation of

the spirit the illumination and the enabling of the holy spirit is given for the

common good the prophet of all of those will end up body of Christ the

holy spirit is The Giver of the gifts and he gives each gifts as he Wills

according to First Corinthians 12:11 he is The Giver of gifts not as the person Wheels

but as he Wills a need arise and a manifestation of a gift is given he is The Giver

of the gift but as he Wills example would be Peter as he went to the temple each and every

day now this is after Jesus Ascension after they received the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost

and they were still operating in their Jewish Traditions they went to to the temple three times

a day every day for prayer there was a beggar that was there since birth Peter

walked by the same beggar that was sitting in the same place every day but one day

the spirit arrested Peters attention and to focus on the lame man he went to the lame man in the

lame man was expecting Peter to give him some money but Peter said silver and gold I have not

in the name of Jesus rise up and walk listen Peter and do that on his own the Holy Spirit

moved upon Peter and Peter was obedient to the holy spirit's leading and he reached his hand out to

the man and lifting them up and the Bible says he was healed he started leaping jumping and praising

God but listen every manifestation of the holy spirit in the Bible had a greater purpose

it wasn't a Elevate Peter or make Peter a super st. it was to elevate God but other people saw

this and they said this the same man that's been sitting here since birth now look out he's leaping jumping

and praising God and what that did it opened up a door for Peter now to preach and

because of the message of Peter more people were saved more people came to a

knowledge of Jesus Christ these gifts in the manifestations of the gift is not the

Elevate the preacher to make him look like some great man a power you got people traveling 4,000

miles to go to see somebody who claimed quote is a faith healer or claim to get pacific

Prophecy from God no the Bible don't support that but what the Bible tells support is

Men Women who are walking in the spirit of God obedient to the spirit of God

yielding to the spirit of God and you see the mighty works of God being manifested the holy spirit in

distributes the gifts in the body of Christ as he Wills today we just bumped three lies

about the Holy Spirit ly1 the holy spirit is just an energy or Force the

truth is he's the living active spirit of God at work in the life of

the Believers today for those who have allow the Holy Spirit to work in them and through them line

number to the holy spirit is not God the holy spirit is eternal he's all

knowing he's all-powerful he's ever a present he's Divine and he has the same attributes

as God because the Holy Spirit and God are one and line number three the these peers work ended with

early church some people believe that that's why they just look at the Bible as a history book

but if you understand that the holy spirit is still alive today that the Holy Spirit steal convicts today he

still transforming lives everybody on this line is a testament to that our lives have been transformed by

the Holy Spirit he's the one that's doing the work in us as we yield to the

word as as we yield to his leading and guiding if you reject the Holy Spirit if you're not yielding

to his leading guiding your life is not going to change your life is going

to be the same you can sit in church all day long and your life still is not going to

be transformed you have to allow the Holy Spirit to come in to do the work that

he has been assigned to do and that's to transform you into the image of

Jesus Christ and he still doing it today still Distributing yes to the body of Christ today

and everybody has a gift if you're born again you have a gift the question is are you using

it or you allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life the Holy Spirit he's the active presence of

God in the world today guiding and empowering Believers in all truth the truth that can
