Welcome to the Believers Bible Assembly This is the day that the Lord has made

and we're going to rejoice and be glad in it Open your Bibles to Romans chapter 8 verse 14

and it reads as follows For all who are led by the Spirit of God are

sons of God Today we're going to continue our teaching series on living a spirit-led life The

last time we were together we talked about some of the characteristics the evidences of a spirit-led

life Number one intimacy with God Number 2 being transformed Number 3 being sensitive to the voice of God Number

These are some of the characteristics the evidences of a spirit-led life Today I want to talk

about our spiritual connection with God through the Holy Spirit which enables us to live a spirit-led life We

are spiritually connected With God through the Holy Spirit and that enables us to live

a spirit-led life because we have a spiritual connection with God through the Holy Spirit So that's what I

want to talk to you about today As believers we are connected with God through

the Holy Spirit Number 1 the spirit lives within us Romans chapter 8 verse 9 says You however are not

in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the spirit if

indeed the Spirit of God lives in you The first thing that we need to know

and understand is that the Spirit lives within us We are not in the realm

of the flesh anymore What is the realm of the flesh Our sinful nature We

have been delivered from our sinful nature in Christ So you are no longer in the

realm of the flesh but you are in the realm of the Spirit who empowers believers to live in

accordance with God's will So you see two realms here the realm of the flesh and the realm of

the spirit You are not in the realm of the flesh anymore You are in the realm

of the spirit if indeed the spirit of God lives in you A lot of people

are claiming that they are of the spirit but there's some characteristics that we talked

about last week There's some evidences that will prove whether or not you are of

the spirit of God And these evidences are the defining characteristics of a true believer but we

don't live in the realm of the flesh anymore As a believer you have to live move

and have your being in the realm of the spirit Because the spirit of God only

dwells within born again believers This identifies who we are in Christ We are spiritual beings connected with God through

the Holy Spirit We no longer walk according to the flesh We no longer live in

the realm of the flesh our sinful desires That's what we've been delivered from but we're

in the realm of the spirit now We have the spirit within us through our born

again experience That's what makes us born again believers Our spirit has been born again not

our flesh We have to deal with that on a daily basis not our minds That has to

be renewed on a daily basis So what was born again Our spirit We have the spirit of

God dwelling on the inside of us now instead of a spirit that is in the realm of the flesh

John 14:17 says this The Holy Spirit He is the Spirit of truth The world cannot accept

him because it neither sees him nor knows him but you know him for he lives with

you and will be in you Jesus is saying that the Holy Spirit who's going to sin is the spirit

of truth and the world cannot accept Him The world cannot accept truth And Jesus said He is the way

he is the truth He is the life The world cannot accept truth They can't accept the

spirit of truth and they cannot accept the truth giver Jesus Christ But the contrast is you know the

truth because you know Him for he lives with you talking about his abiding presence

and will be future tense in you This is what Jesus told his disciples at the time Now

we know because we're Bible students that the Spirit came on the day of Pentecost after Jesus' death

resurrection and ascension This was a future tense promise to his disciples That's a reality for you and I

today that the Spirit will be with us and will be in us First John chapter

Now John's about to explain how we know this because he has given us His spirit That's how we know

that we remain in him and he remains in us because he has past tense given us

his spirit which is a living reality that impacts the daily lives of every believer

What we see here we see these verses connecting our relationship with God through His spirit that is with us

and in us Number 2 the Spirit helps us to understand 1 Corinthians chapter 2 verse 12

what we have received is not the spirit of the world but the spirit who is from God so

that we may understand what God has freely given us The Spirit helps us to understand What Paul

is writing to the church in Corinth and he's making clear that there is a spirit

of the world and there is a spirit that is from God And you and I

we need to know the differences between the spirit of the world and the spirit who's of God

This is why we have to renew our minds to the word of truth and the spirit's job

is to help us discern the differences Between the spirit that comes from God and the

spirit of the world the spirit of the world are the attitudes the philosophies and the values

of the world that are contrary against God's truth So how do we discern the difference between what comes from

the world and what comes from the truth The Holy Spirit helps us to understand the

differences The spirit of the world is based on human wisdom and secular ideas and philosophies that are at

odds with the teachings of Christ That's why we need the Holy Spirit to help us discern the

difference between truth and error That's the Holy Spirit's job That's why the Holy Spirit is called the helper

He helps us to comprehend and understand the spiritual things of God that's found in His word He's

a helper He comes to help us discern the difference between right and wrong truth and error but

you have to allow him to do these things You have to allow him to reveal

the truth to you That's his job He illuminates the scriptures to bring understanding of God's truth to bear John

truth He's not going to make you understand the truth He's going to guide you into all truth That's

why you got to seek the wisdom that comes from God That's why you got to study your scripture

because when you're doing these things you're seeking the truth of the word and it's the Holy Spirit's job

to guide you into all truth not some truth all truth John 16:13 speaks of the role of the Holy

Spirit and is leading and guiding to all truth and it's his job to give us spiritual insight and

discernment That's what we need especially in this day in this time in this hour where the spirit of deception

is running rampant Jesus said that in the last days there will be great deception

and even the very elective God will be deceived But the Holy Spirit's job his role is to give us

spiritual insight and discernment so we won't be deceived misled In these last and evil days John 14:26 says

this but the advocate the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name will teach you

all things He will give you spiritual insight and discernment And he will remind you of everything I've

told you That's the job of the Holy Spirit He's going to reveal He's going to illuminate He's going to

give spiritual insight and discernment and he's also going to remind you bring back to your remembrance everything that Jesus

has said to us in His word And not only that the Holy Spirit's job also is to help

us apply to put into action what Jesus taught us in our daily lives So the role of

the Holy Spirit is critical to help us understand the real plans and purposes of God The Holy

Spirit is not going to overtake you and make you do anything but his role is to lead His role

is to guide his role is to reveal the truth of God's word to help us

understand God's plan for our life Number 3 believers are to live by the Spirit Galatians

chapter 5 verse 25 says Since we live by the Spirit let us keep in

step with the Spirit Now what this verse of scripture is teaching us is that as believers we

need to align our lives with the wisdom the spiritual insight and discernment That comes from the spirit Like I

shared with you the Holy Spirit is not going to make you do anything You have

to make a conscious decision I'm going to follow the leading of the Spirit and not the

leading of my flesh Remember we've been delivered from that but we still have free will and we

can choose to follow the leading of the spirit or we can choose to follow the leading of

the flesh If you follow the leading of the flesh it's going to lead to death If you follow the

leading of the spirit it's going to lead to life So you and I we

have to willingly purposefully align our lives continue to walk in step with the Spirit Holy Spirit where are you

leading me Where are you guiding me And walk in step with the spirit That's what

it means by living by the spirit We're not living according to our own thoughts our own

ways our fleshly desires We've been there done that didn't work But now we're living in step with the

spirit And listen it's a day by day submitting to the will plans and purpose of God It's a daily

process of submitting to the reading and the studying of his word It's a daily

process of being led by the Spirit Listen the spirit is always going to take

you in the route you want to go but if you're truly living by the Spirit you're going

to follow the leading and the guiding of the spirit The spirit job is to take you away from your

safety zone the safe spaces and places We feel comfortable there The Holy Spirit says no we're

moving from that We're going in another direction It's going to challenge you It's going to test your faith but

if you continue on this path if you continue to walk in step with the spirit you'll be where God

desires you to be That what I mean by walking and living by the Spirit

And because we are living and walking by the Spirit keeping in step with the Spirit now we

can have access to the Father We can have access to the throne of grace Ephesians chapter 2

verse 18 says for through him Christ we both have access to the Father by

one Spirit Because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross we now have access to the Father by

the Spirit I'm putting emphasis on this because the only way you can get to

the Father is through the Son by the Spirit And because of this we have access to

the Father We don't have to go through a priest like they did in the Old Testament You

don't have to go through a pastor because you are spiritually connected with God through Christ and the Holy Spirit

You have direct access to the Father by the Spirit Hebrews chapter 4:16 says Let us then approach the throne

of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us

in our time of need The reason why we can come boldly to the throne with

confidence is because we have access to the Father by the Spirit That's where we can come and

find mercy We can find grace To help us in our time of need We

have access direct access meaning you don't have to ask nobody's permission you don't have to

make an appointment to anyone You have direct access to the Father by the Spirit

And it's because the Holy Spirit provides us access direct approach to God the Father through the finished work of

Jesus Christ That's how we can live by the Spirit That's how we can keep

in step with the Spirit That's how we can receive spiritual insight and discernment by the Spirit

He has given us access to the Father We can come to Him in our time of need

With confidence to find the mercy and the grace that we need to help in times

of trouble And number 4 I want you to know that this connection is an eternal connection

through the spirit Y'all remember back in the day when the technology wasn't like it is today you can be

in the middle of a phone call and the phone call just drops disconnected or you can be

trying to connect the internet and next thing you know the the connection drops That's not

how it is with our relationship with God through the Spirit We are eternally connected God through the Spirit Romans

chapter 8 verse 16 says the Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children We

have his spiritual DNA in us because of the spirit We belong to him eternally Because

of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross we have been adopted into the family of God

Now I don't want to get too deep into this this morning but if you understand adoption you understand

that adoption is an intentional legal act that grants all rights and privileges of a natural born

child You and I because of Christ and because of the Holy Spirit we have been adopted

into God's family Remember God made a covenant with Israel but because of the finished work of

Jesus Christ on the cross we now have been adopted into God's family with all the rights and

privileges of a natural born child This is why we are connected eternally with God through the

Spirit because we are his children His spiritual DNA resides in us Just like your children

my children we are eternally connected because my DNA is in my children So it don't matter what my children

do they will always be connected with me because of the DNA that's in them Likewise

we are eternally connected to God because the spirit dwells on us We are eternally connected to

God because we have his DNA residing on the inside of us We have been adopted into

God's family with all the rights and privileges of a natural born child This confirms our eternal

connection and identity as children of God through the Holy Spirit Now that should be good news to somebody this

morning We always got family because we as believers are connected eternally with the spirit and

the spiritual connection is guaranteed in the word 2 Corinthians chapter 1 verse 22 says this He has also put

his seal on us and given us His spirit In our hearts as a guarantee of the fulfillment

of his promise of eternal life This eternal connection with God through the Spirit is guaranteed

because God has put His seal on us and has given His Holy Spirit in our hearts The Holy Spirit

guarantees that we belong to God He guarantees that our salvation is now and for eternity You and I

we need to know and understand this We need to receive and believe this because you've got

a teaching out here that says you can lose your salvation There's an argument about

once saved always saved If you know the scripture if you understand what God purposed for us before the

foundation of the world there's no argument The scripture is clear We have been sealed with

the Holy Spirit of promise which guarantees that we belong to God and that our salvation is

both now and for eternity Ephesians chapter 1 verse 13 to 14 says this and in Him Christ having

heard and believed the word of truth the gospel of your salvation you were sealed sealed with the promised

Holy Spirit who is the pledge the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of those

who are God's possessions to the praise of His glory This is the process here This is how it

happened You heard and believed the word of truth about Jesus Christ for your salvation and because of that

you were sealed with the promise of the Holy Spirit God put his seal on us and given us His

Holy Spirit in our hearts This is the guarantee of our inheritance of eternal life The spirit in our hearts

guarantees the promise of the inheritance of eternal life So I want to leave you with this We

are connected to God through Christ and the Holy Spirit eternally forever and ever If you don't get

anything from this teaching today please get this that we are connected to God through

Christ and the Holy Spirit eternally forever and ever and that nothing can separate us

from our spiritual connection to God Not trouble not hardship not persecution and no not

even death Nothing can separate us from our spiritual connection to God Nothing in the present nothing in

our past and nothing in the future has the power to separate us from His love that

He has for us that's found in Christ Romans chapter 8 verse 35 to 39 However we have to

allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us in every area of our life in

order for victory to come I hope you get this this morning God has done all

these things for us He has made all these connections for us to be more

than conquerors for us to be victorious in life but we have to allow the Holy Spirit

to guide and lead us in every area of our life And how do we allow it By

doing what the Holy Spirit tells us to do by going where the Holy Spirit tells us

to go by not going where we want to go but go where the Holy Spirit leads us to go

not saying what we want to say but speaking what the Holy Spirit desires us to speak if we are

to speak at all This is what it means by walking in step with the Spirit and

not in step with our flesh That's what we were used to That's what we

have been delivered from But now we can live a spirit-led life and this spirit-led

life is available for every born again believer who desires it This is something you've got to desire

This is something you got to want We walk by faith and not by sight We have

to trust where the spirit is leading us is where God desires us to be It's gonna take you

through some uncharted spaces It's gonna take you to some unfamiliar places It's gonna require you to

do some things you've never done before It requires a continued daily surrender which results in

a continual leading of the Holy Spirit which enables us to live a spirit-led life If you follow

the leading of the Holy Spirit you will be blessed Amen
