I'm here today with my friend, and my mentor, my instructor in Mind Models, and my colleague Blair Dunkley. Hi John. Hi Blair! How are you doing? I'm doing great hope you're doing well too I'm doing very well. good so blaire's story is a long one I'm not going to tell try to tell the whole thing but suffice to say he's been helping people straighten out their thinking and be more effective in living lives and making choices that benefit them for over 40 years and and the tools that he's created our well not really tools the methods and skills that he's created are named mind models and they have changed my life using them has changed my life that's a real key point that will come back to use it or lose it kind of thing and so after I experience that level of change I wanted to to share those things with other people and I took the my model coach training from Blair about a year after we met and recently repeated that class to deepen and refresh my skills and I really wanted to create a little sample something that people could watch and give a just kind of take a test run with a couple of the real key useful mind models and so that's what we're doing here today we're going to talk about three different mind models and they are used very effectively together kind of like a Lego block stacking them up on top of one another we call them a stack in that case but they can also they're very useful individually as well so Blair how they've been given this little this little stack has been given the name of the three E's I don't it's not real complicated where that name came from but would you explain it sure sure well first of all thank you very much John for having me here today like you guys are very fortunate John has been applying these and got a lot of change in his life and has helped other people with their issues as well like in both business and personally so I just want to vouch for his credibility and his excellence in being able to respond effectively to your needs he also knows his limitations so if he sometimes if he doesn't think he can help he'll tell ya so it's a very straight up kind of guy so great to have one of those on your side anyway John thank you so much the three he's real quick into that first of all the first of the three he's mine models and it's like John said it's three stacks of like a Lego block so the top block of the stack is called effective versus ineffective and all of these mind models are based on sticky behaviors and you may not know what study behaviors are but the real simple these sticky behaviors are things that you already know at a subconscious level so your training time you're up take time to actually make my models work for you is very short you know people go you got to change your habit you got to do all know you don't you don't have to change your belief all you have to do is test it and see if it works for you so the first the first mine model is effective versus an effective we want to get away from judgment because judgment causes people to have to defend if they get judged they want to defend and it's a complex thing to unwind that most time especially in business now you've got competing factions within the same business if one's judging the other than the other one competes and judges them and you've got this competition and frequently turn as into politics inside of a company which you really don't need it's lost cash flow lost time and not profitable but when we go to effective versus ineffective that all changes so we go to Simply ask yourself is what I'm doing effective or as what I'm doing an effective as a employer you could ask your staff is what you're doing effective does that work for you you can replace the word effective with works or doesn't work or is that something that doesn't work and it is also the applied to something that has happened like when we're looking at a completed task let's I can we can we equally say was that effective or ineffective yes brilliant yes perfectly and so I just want to jump in with that so when we talked you mentioned judgment a minute ago that I've got this little idea of stealth judgment because it's you know we don't necessarily think we're using judgment when we use the rewards right wrong good and bad correct a lot of others that you know imply those but but just using those words is forcing our mind into a judgment of point of view right well most of us have been trained I've gone to school and the whole problem with that is you know your you've got a good grade or a bad grade you're right or you're wrong you know with things and all of that requires a model that forces that to be attached to you you are right you are wrong you have a good grade you failed not what was not something to get out of yourself like I often compare judgment as something that's you personally you are judged but if somebody doesn't like my shirt then all of a sudden I can go change my shirt and evaluation is like okay this shirt is dirty I got to go change that's really what it comes down to and when you talk to it that is really all that it is it's just the ability to adapt more effectively okay so if you walk outside and freezing weather and that t-shirt that's ineffective yes I'm gonna freeze you can ask is this effective or ineffective and if it's ineffective you can just go change the shirt Bingo and I don't have to I don't have to worry about it's not was my judgment in question no it's my it's my choice and what I thought was the case wasn't so I can adapt and change and I don't need to defend myself about that choice I'd go I just didn't know I'm changing I'm adopting a moving on and hit it quickly that's the whole thing yay so it really depersonalize has or takes takes the personalities out of it takes not only takes the personality and be personalizes it but it actually focuses on the thing that's not working so the thing that's not working it's not me that thing that's not working is the shirt choice I could change that in a heartbeat you know I can go change my shirt so we'll who and I collected more data therefore I can make a better decision next time so I increase my opportunity to incrementally increase my decision-making process without judgment because we're going to drop into the next one of the threes because What I Got by walking outside was externally verified information so it's external versus Central that's the next my model so right there it's not me it's the weather that's cold I'm I'm flying my choice was an effective I didn't have the data the wind was blowing way too much even though the temperature was up I didn't want to freeze but with that level of wind wind chill factor and everything else whoo that's a little chilly or to dampen and chilly temperature seem like it could get away with it but not quite let's go change so that's it a verifiable data like whether humidity wind blowing thing ever it's not about me it's about external factors so I can adopt and then in a business setting so externally verifiable data could be all kinds of things right how many customers buy a particular product in a week or how many people click on an ad or I'm so whenever we're or it could simply be how many people do get dry Iving by on a road like yeah where are ya how many people saw the ad versus click on it again externally verifiable data it's not an opinion and then you can go is this actually is this if it's online is this working if it's offline while how might how else might we be able to increase traffic where is the flow literally the cars driving on the highway is there a signage that we can rent to direct them to us these are all externally verifiable data points that we can definitely explore okay if its internal well it's my opinion I am the President of the company or I'm in charge of marketing and I'm going to hide I'm going to tell you what works well that's an opinion that's not backed up by data that's not backed up by anything other than somebody's best guess yeah I don't care if you have five years or 50 years of experience it's always the best guest some a little bit more educated than others I'll give you that but it's still a guess which would you have rather have not guessing and have faxed or guess and maybe maybe not figure it out like which is more reliable I would say not guessing and having facts and and that's what my business clients love about my models is because it gets it out of opinion and gets it into the facts of it not just numbers but factual data points what worked and what what didn't work so we're back to with Effectiveness then effect yeah and another aspect of the internal I want to make sure we cover is that the when we're talking about something that they don't really maybe don't know what we don't have experience with that can slide into worry we're we're just turning it over and over in our heads and thinking you know doing what if and what if and what if and and and maybe making decisions about what will or won't work without doing any testing Gathering any data just based on you know what goes on in our heads and that becomes highly ineffective well incredibly highly ineffective because the research on that is like by the way John as you well know and I'm just going to share this with with your people that watch this you know 97 percent of everything we worry about never happens that study has been repeated over and over again in University after University getting a very similar none number so you know it it's great to know that what I'm worrying about isn't usually worth worrying about even though I'm practice that even though I do it let's change that worry to something we can evaluate now we created a flow of something that's effective versus an effective now if we go it's effective but it's my opinion well is that truly effective or is that something we can externalize if we can slide it over to another one the to ease their the effective and external we can evaluate it but if you have any one of those ones that is not Annie you're drifting into judgment and that's how you know this stuff so you get to evaluate and change so you okay so you've mentioned it a couple times and we've used the words evaluation but the third e and the three he's is the E of evaluation versus judgment and that's our third line and yeah that's exactly thank you so those valuations kind of circles back around to the effective part about you know when we rephrase effective as what works evaluation is asking what worked and what didn't sir Burke says Judgment of well that's Prime that that's stinks that we're about all right and I'm going like I'm dying on this field I'm right you're wrong that's it this is the thing that I'm this is a battle worth fighting like okay I thought on the same side positive judgment that's a hard one to always recognize whom we hadn't think it's validating when when it's really just getting a stuck absolutely it's and all of these are the things that you tease out and you've been taught how and you've done it and he tease out these stuck states that people accidentally stumble into and they wind up being I'm frustrated and overwhelmed and just lacking the information that the Mind model Salve and your training can provide them Clarity so yeah that's basically it Okay so we've got effective versus ineffective so we get we do something and we gather some data from from that as we go we asked was that effective or is what I'm doing effective is it would be you know is it moving me in the direction of where I wanted to go right I've got a goal or a desired result that I'm looking to achieve so is is what I'm doing moving in that direction even a tiny bit yes exactly that is another way where I've found judgment can creep in is is not enough movement or progress where you know even an inch of progress is still progress all right so we do this it's effective and then we double check was it external or was it just in my head as long as it's external and we've got verifiable data somebody else can check that and then we can look at it and was it effective did it work evaluation evaluated did it work what worked what didn't and and even you know taking it one tiny bit deeper is when something doesn't work what worked about what didn't work what you know what can we Salvage out of the wreckage so to speak because even something that crash the birds is got you know there's data there to buy it I want to tell you that there is a lot of data in those scenarios a lot I mean if you take a look at it Elon Musk and SpaceX he literally with knew that those first spaceships we're going to crash the Starship was going to crash and he kept on testing his models and would iterate very quickly and I'm gonna throw in one other little thing that really fits here and that's failing fast falling forward so when you fail fast falling forward with the three he's you can actually do that without getting stuck so I think that that's going to be a pretty strong chunk of information for people to be able to get their heads wrapped around and apply it to their businesses and their lives are actually a lot of married couples figure this stuff out do with the same thing and yeah we've I know some people that have gone through some tough times in their lives using I'm thinking of cat and particular you know has said that just mostly effective versus an effective but the three he's for sure got her through a very very difficult time and actually the ending of a marriage but it wasn't working but very powerful tools for her to to move on with her life quickly exactly as opposed to crashing and burning and getting going into a steep depression it was her story Tori is phenomenal so yeah well this has been awesome thank you so much for taking this time with me I think that you know if anybody is watching us has any questions about their particular application of these three he's mine models plus fail fast falling forward to get in touch with me and and I'll be glad to help with that and thanks again for creating these amazing skills my pleasure and best of luck and guys you got a good culture thanks so much you better buy picture
